About TPSS

Tai Pei Social Service (TPSS) was started to take care of the destitute individual with mental disorder, regardless of race or religion for those who need long term care and support. On 1st June 2006, TPSS started its operation as a step- down care facility caring for long staying patients from Institute of Mental Health (IMH) in Buangkok Green Medical Park. The Home took over the care and management of four wards in block 5 Level 5 & 6 in IMH (formerly know as Ward 55 A&B and Ward 56 A&B), with a bed space capacity of 192 beds.

As a Voluntary Welfare Organisation (VWO) the residents under our care are mostly destitute who have been staying in IMH for a long period of time. Most of our residents are either destitute who are being rejected or come from poor families who have no means or not able to look after them.

To provide loving kindness to female aged destitutes irrespective of race,religion or creed. With the concerted effort of both the staff and volunteers, we provide shelter with holistic care for the individual residents. Collectively we will strive to offer continual high standard of nursing and medical care to our residents.


Vision

To seek to overcome the stigma of mental illness and to extend care beyond the institution setting, creating self-reliance for individual and re-integrate them back into the community. To provide social service programmers to benefit the needy in the community.




Service Residential Care

The Home currently have a bed space capacity of up to 192 for full residential care. The Home is equipped with modern facilities and activities for the physical, emotional and spiritual well-being of the residents.

Rehabilitative services are carried out for residents, reinforced by maintenance therapy to prevent deterioration. Qualified medical and nursing staff, including the services of a Psycho Geriatrician, are on-hand to manage residents with dementia and psychiatric illness.

Recreational and social activities are planned by staff and dedicated volunteers to enable the resident to keep in touch with their social and physical environment.


Admission Eligibility

Tai Pei Social Service (TPSS) accepts Females residents. ental Health (IMH). A minority of non-subsidized cases may be accepted up to 10% of residents.

As a voluntary welfare organisation (VWO), Tai Pei Social Service (TPSS) is committed to accept up to 90% of subsidised/destitute cases which are referred from Institute of Mental Health (IMH). A minority of non-subsidized cases may be accepted up to 10% of residents.

Admission Procedures

  1. Family to seeks assistance of Medical Social Worker (MSW) at Institute of Mental Health (IMH) where the patient is receiving treatment.
  2. IMH-MSW to asses the case and refer the application to the home for intake assessment.
  3. Upon receiving the application, our nursing staff will visit the patient to assess the case.
  4. After assessing the suitability of patients, the MSW at the home will contact the family members and arrange for pre-admission interview, financial counselling, etc. prior to admission.

VOLUNTEERING OPPORTUNITIES

We welcome any volunteer who is interested to lend a helping hand and want to make a difference in the lives of our residents; whether students, working adults or homemakers to volunteer their time and talents at the Home.

There are indefinite number of ways in which any volunteer can help or be engaged in. The following are just some of the areas in which we require your expertise and help most:-

  • Interaction with residents

    Befriend, feed, help with errands and directly take care of our residents in ways such as, accompanying residents for their appointments or outings.
  • Assist in Residents' Exercise Sessions

    e.g. assisting residents during their daily exercise sessions and interact with residents suffering from dementia especially in the morning sessions.
  • Organising indoor and outdoor activities

    Help to organise activities for residents. This would be suitable for volunteers who prefer to volunteer on a project rather than regular day-to-day basis. e.g. organise indoor activities for residents on an adhoc basis.
  • Fund-Raising

    Due to our limited manpower and resources, we need individual and corporate organisation to assist us to do raise fund, meet the Home rising costs in providing care of the residents.
  • Professional advice / services

    Provide professional consultation and services to our residents. We are in constant need of professional volunteers with the following skills and expertise:-
  • Maintenance work

    Assist in general maintenance of the Home. Help in the following areas would be most welcome:-
  • IT Support

    Help with website design and/or maintenance and other projects.
